Fourth of July celebration will have to find a new home – Sheridan Media


During an interview with Sheridan Media, Bruce Burns has officially announced that the July 4th celebration, Fireworks at the Bighorns will no longer be held at the Bighorn Equestrian Center. 
A former Wyoming legislator, for 34 years Burns has volunteered to develop, organize and pay the majority of the 4th of July celebration. Although he would like to continue developing and putting on the fireworks display, he will now have to find another venue, but that’s easier said than done.

Although speciation and no conversations have been had as of publication, possabilities include Ucross, Lake DeSmet, the city maintenance yard and even some local ranches. But each location has its pros and cons, Burns said. ....

Mule deer study raises red flags


BUFFALO — There are still six months remaining in the three-year study to better understand why the population of the Upper Powder River mule deer herd is in decline, but already biologists have identified concerning trends.
Statewide, mule deer populations have been on the decline. Biologists have identified the Upper Powder River herd, which ranges in Hunt Areas 30, 32, 33, 163 and 169 south and west of Buffalo, as one of the high concerns.
“We just have way less deer than we used to,” said Cheyenne Stewart, the Sheridan Region wildlife coordinator for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. “We were trying to look at what we are missing that could explain why the population isn’t rebounding.” ....

Fireworks at the Big Horns – Sheridan Media


For the 35th year, the Fireworks at Big Horn will bring thousands of Sheridan Region residents and visitors together to celebrate Independence Day. 
As in previous years, the event will be held at the Big Horn Equestrian Center at 352 Bird Farm Rd. in Sheridan. The Big Horn Lions Club has once again donated their Independence Day by volunteering to organize concessions, provide parking guidance and clean up after the event. 
The event is free and open to the public and gates will open at 5:30 p.m. The Big Horn Lions Club will be asking for a $10 per vehicle donation, although donations are not required to attend the event. This event is the primary fundraiser for the BH Lion’s Club. Lion’s member Ed Hawkinson told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse just a few of the things their donations do for the community.  ....

Memorial Day ceremony will be in-person this year – Sheridan Media


The Sheridan County Veteran’s Council will hold the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31, at 9 a.m.
The ceremony will be both live streamed on the WYO Theater YouTube page and in-person, open to the public at the WYO Theater. 
Flags will be placed on the graves of servicemembers Sunday, May 30, starting at 9 a.m.
In the Sheridan Region, the Sheridan County Veteran’s Council organizes the Memorial Day events. The theme for this year’s events is the recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The Sheridan Veteran’s Council is made up of local representatives from Veterans of Foriegn Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans Affairs, plus the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. ....
