Stone Creek man charged after shooting incident on Stonecreek Road Times-Reporter A 21-year-old Stone Creek man is facing multiple charges after a shooting incident Tuesday afternoon on Stonecreek Road. The incident began when a woman reported that she and her boyfriend witnessed a man exit a vehicle on W. High Avenue at I-77 in New Philadelphia and appear to assault a woman in another vehicle by grabbing her by the neck, according to Sheriff Orvis Campbell. The suspect and the woman who had been assaulted then continued down Stonecreek Road in separate vehicles. The caller and her boyfriend decided to follow them to check on the assault victim s well-being. Campbell said there was also a child in the assault victim s vehicle. ....
The Times-Reporter BOLIVAR A 68-year-old man who fired repeatedly at law enforcement officers on Tuesday had not been acting right since his wife died in November, a neighbor told a Tuscarawas County sheriff s deputy. The neighbor said there had been times when Donald Whiting drove recklessly up and down Russell Drive NW, and had sat in his vehicle at the home of another neighbor, a woman. It was a complaint from that woman, who said Whiting had put into her mailbox an odd letter that made no sense, that started the chain of events that ended hours later after Whiting fled his home and crashed his truck about 10 miles away in Fairfield Township. ....
UHRICHSVILLE The number of cases filed in the Southern District of Tuscarawas County Court decreased significantly from 2019 to 2020, according to Judge Brad L. Hillyer. The total number of cases filed for the year was 2,319, a decrease of 1,933 from the 2019 filings, he wrote in his annual report. The drop represents a 45.4 percent decline. The major factor in this decrease was the COVID-19 pandemic, Hillyer wrote. This led to less travel and significantly less traffic tickets being issued. Also, with people in quarantine more, less criminal activity occurred. The court saw 73 new cases for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a decrease of 38 from 2019. The 2020 figure represents a 34 percent drop from the number of cases in 2019. ....
