Provided photo DARKE COUNTY Darke County Parks is pleased to announce that on April 1, National Historic Site, Bear’s Mill officially became part of the Darke County Park District. With the addition of Bear’s Mill, Darke County Parks welcomes two new staff members: Thom Hammaker and Sophie Nieport. These two staff members will be apprentices to the Master Miller, Terry Clark, at the Historic Bears Mill. They will also be maintaining the mill and grounds. ....
Community Foundation announces spring grants SIDNEY – The Community Foundation of Shelby County recently awarded more than $49,500 to local organizations during its Spring Community Grants cycle. Grant money comes from several sources, including gifts to the annual Community Foundation Partners program and earnings from the foundation’s Operations Reserve, Community Impact Fund, Roscoe Beanblossom Fund, John Douglas Long Blind Fund, The Memory Fund and Shelby County Medical Services Fund. Funding was awarded as follows: • Alpha Community Center, $12,050 to purchase a double-decker convection oven, a stovetop and griddle to be installed in its new facility to continue its meals and those from Holy Angels Soup Kitchen. ....

Community grants application open until Jan. 21 SIDNEY The spring 2020 Community Grant application window is open, making $55,000 available to local organizations from the Community Foundation of Shelby County. The deadline for the online preliminary proposal submission is Jan. 21. Community Grant awards may go to any 501(c)(3) organization or governmental entity in or serving Shelby County. Fall grant awards supported medical care and training equipment Anna Rescue, GIVE Medical Ministry and the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA, education efforts sponsored by the Shelby County Historical Society and Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District, an accessibility ramp for New Choices and many other efforts.
