(Representational Image) SURAT: A court in Surat awarded life imprisonment to Shailesh Rathod, a 45-year-old textile unit worker for raping and impregnating his 19-year-old niece. The court convicted Rathod, a resident of Salabatpura area, for rape and sexual assault under the sections of the Indian Penal Code. The girl was eight months pregnant when the family came to know about her ordeal. Due to the delay, she could not get the foetus aborted. DNA profiling of the child proved that Rathod was her father. The complaint was lodged by the elder brother of the girl at Salabatpura police station on September 23, 2020 in which he claimed that she was 14-year-old. ....
