(WAFF) - There have been continued problems with the state vaccine hotline. Dr. Karen Landers with the State Health Department said ADPH is working to actively to increase hotline capacity. Doctor Landers also explained what went wrong there. She said initially, the plan was for people to call their county health departments directly to make vaccine appointments. However, call volume exceeded capacity at those departments. The Department of Public Health is also working to set-up a vaccine registration system online. ....

(WAFF) - United Steelworkers voted Monday to ceased their strike after they ratified a new, five-year collective bargaining agreement with Constellium. , Kevin Key, United Steelworkers International staff representative for Local 200, said the new agreement had some built-in protections, such as shift preferences based on seniority to help protect workers’ seniority. They were also able to preserve items that were already in the contract, such as 15% raises and the elimination of the wage tier. The strike included nearly 400 members of USW Local 200; the strike began December 15 after months of negotiations with management failed. ....

Some teachers who have been working from home are returning to campus, too. Since the beginning of the school year, Holly Moody has been splitting her teaching time between the classroom and the computer. “I love being able to interact with my students and teach them something new about life or about the English language they may have never known before,” said Moody. ....

(WAFF) - Cases of domestic violence are on the rise during the pandemic. Governor Kay Ivey recently announced grant funding to help agencies that serve assault victims. That the much-needed financial support still leaves some of these organizations working with less money than usual. “This has been a really terrifying year for victims of domestic violence,” Safeplace Executive Director Rachel Hackworth said. Hackworth said Domestic violence rates across the Shoals are increasing. ....
