BOC NAIA, Davao, Cebu conduct inter-port meeting on vaccine arrival preparedness

PASAY CITY, Feb. 17 Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA, Port of Davao, and Port of Cebu conducted an inter-port meeting last February 11, 2021 to ensure that the country s airports in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are fully prepared in expediting arrival, customs clearances, and handling of the Covid-19 vaccines.
Customs pre-clearance process, documentary requirements for importation and donation, expedite handling, and logistical challenges, were all comprehensively discussed to ensure that the release of the vaccines will be standard, adopted, and implemented in all ports where the vaccines may arrive.
Deputy Commissioner Atty. Edward James Dybuco and NAIA District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan shared information on the recently completed Covid-19 vaccine arrival simulation held last February 10, 2021, while both Davao District Collector Atty. Erastus Sandino B. BoC-PDEA interdiction exercise held at Mactan-Cebu Airport

During the simulation exercise, baggage with concealed samples of shabu, cannabis sativa, party drugs, and gamma butyrolactone (GBL) underwent X-ray scanning and were identified by the machine using color-coding technology.
Protocols under chain of custody rules which include physical inventory, marking and taking of photos in the presence of required witnesses, and official turnover of confiscated drugs to PDEA were also practiced.
“This exercise is part of our partnership with PDEA Region 7 to further increase our personnel’s competency to not only detect and apprehend drugs but also to practice proper handling to maintain the integrity of evidence every step of the way until turn over to PDEA,” said Subport of Mactan Collector Gerardo A.
