EASTPOINTE Eastpointe is getting in gear for Cruisin’ Gratiot, the traditional days-long celebration of Eastpointe and car culture.
This year’s cruise will take place Thursday, June 17; Friday, June 18; and Saturday, June 19. The three-day schedule is reduced from its usual six-day length.
“It’s three days instead of six, with a car show on Thursday at First State Bank, and two other car shows on Friday and Saturday at the high school,” said co-organizer and former Eastpointe Mayor Suzanne Pixley. “The first one on Friday is from 2-8 p.m., and the second one on Saturday is from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., both at the high school. We have other events such as Immanuel Methodist Church having music, balloons and other attractions. Andary’s restaurant will be selling T-shirts. The antique 1921 firetruck will be on display along with one of their modern trucks ....

EASTPOINTE Eastpointe’s beloved Halfway Schoolhouse got a facelift on May 15, thanks to the East Detroit Historical Society and some local volunteers. They spent the day repainting the exterior and doing some basic maintenance on the building.
The schoolhouse was originally built in 1872 and now is situated next to Eastpointe High School. For generations, it has been used by the community for both educational purposes and social events. ....

Call goes out for photos, stories to celebrate Eastpointe Fire Department’s 100th anniversary
The massive Chesterfield Inn fire that occurred in June 1956 required more than 100 firefighters to extinguish. It was this fire that precipitated the Macomb County Multiple Alarm assignments that fire departments use today. Eastpointe was the first to ratify this change.

Lady was a station Dalmatian who lived at the firehouse during the late 1950s. She sits on the 1928 American LaFrance Pumper used by the department on countless calls.
