GPs working together to vaccinate city's homeless

GP practices in the Vale of York have been working with local housing services and community providers to ensure that homeless people have been able to access the Covid-19 vaccine.
The targeted vaccination programme has been led by NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), with practices based in York and Selby vaccinating people in their temporary place of residence, including rough sleeper accommodation.

Thousands get second Covid-19 jabs at Selby vaccination hub

Selby’s vaccination centre has seen their first patients receiving their second dose of the vaccine.
Patients at the hub, based at the town’s Summit Indoor Adventure Centre, have been telling of the benefits of receiving the vaccine – including one 86-year-old who tested positive for the virus, but felt no ill effects having had his first dose.
Edward Minors, from Wheldrake, tested positive for Covid-19 three weeks after he had the first dose of the vaccine. He received his second dose at the Selby vaccination centre on Tuesday, saying his overall experience has been “very, very good.”
While the vaccine does offer some protection after the first dose, the second dose is an essential part of the vaccination process. It is given 12 weeks after the first which increases protection against coronavirus and reduces its spread. ....

Selby Summit Indoor Adventure Centre has bene turned into a Covid-19 vaccination centre.
Hundreds of patients have received a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at a new vaccination centre for Selby.
Summit Indoor Adventure Centre which has been closed since March due to coronavirus restrictions has been converted into a vaccination hub.
Run by Selby Town Primary Care Network to serve a population of nearly 50,000 people, it opened to its first patients last Friday.
About 1,800 people in the over-70s age group received a dose of the vaccine across two clinics held at the newly-converted children s adventure centre on Friday and Saturday. ....

Covid mass vaccination centre to open in Selby next month

A CHILDREN S play centre in Selby is set to open as a Covid-19 mass vaccination centre next month.
Summit Indoor Adventure has been closed since March due to coronavirus restrictions but work has now started to remove the indoor skate park to allow the vaccinations to begin in early February.
Up to 5,000 coronavirus jabs a week will be given to vulnerable residents from the Selby area who will receive the Pfizer or AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
The initial capacity of 5,000 vaccines per week has the flexibility to increase to 7,000 depending on supply.
The site will serve around 50,000 residents from the Selby Primary Care Network area. ....

Call for patience as Covid-19 jabs rolled out in Selby

Those who have already had their jab have been expressing their gratitude.
For the past month, Posterngate Surgery in Selby and Tadcaster Health Centre, next to Tadcaster Medical Centre, have been hosting vaccination hubs to serve patients registered with seven district GP practices.
Both local NHS staff and members of the public have been giving an insight into the process, with thousands of people across the district having received their first dose of the vaccine. Front-line NHS staff have also been getting vaccinated.
Staff have been vaccinating members of priority groups, starting with the over-80s, and going into care homes to immunise residents and workers. ....
