GALLIPOLIS During the Gallipolis City Commission’s meeting on Tuesday evening, commissioners and business owners discussed the recently proposed topic of food trucks in the city.
Scott Foote, owner of Zack and Scotty’s, appeared at the city’s meeting to express his thoughts about the recently proposed ordinance that would set rules for food trucks in the city. Foote was present with other restaurant owners in the city. ....

Salvation Army Angel Tree draws donations, volunteers to help needy

Wrapping presents Saturday morning at the Hadley Center for the Salvation Army s Angel Tree families, Starla Gano recounted one mother who had signed up for the Christmas gift program.
She was asking for basic necessities, pillows and a mattress pad, said Gano, an employee of Unified School District 489 who helps families in need within the school district connect with financial assistance. Many of her families applied to be on the Angel Tree.  One child wanted a stuffed animal to sleep with, and her son wanted a tool box and tool set. Some of these stories break your heart. ....

Online proctoring has surged during the coronavirus pandemic, and so too have concerns about the practice, in which students take exams under the watchful eyes (human or automated) of third-party programs.
Chief among faculty and student concerns are student privacy and increasing test anxiety via a sense of being surveilled. Pedagogically, some experts also argue that the whole premise of asking students to recall information under pressure without access to their course materials is flawed. This, they say, may only motivate students to game the system, when cheating is what online proctoring services seek to prevent.
Of course, concerns about academic dishonesty are what gave rise to online exam proctoring in the first place. And the switch to rapid remote instruction provides new opportunities and motivations to cheat: everyone is away from campus, under considerable stress. ....
