Scotland’s salmon farmers have called for urgent action to address discrepancies with export statistics published by the UK Government.
The Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation (SSPO) said there was an urgent need for irregularities in post-Brexit HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) export figures to be addressed in order for the full impact of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU to be known.
Figures released by HMRC for January suggest 80 tonnes of Scottish salmon were exported to Europe. ....

Chief Executive of Scotland Food & Drink, James Withers, is urging firms to try and cut food waste and energy use to reduce bills
AS one of the largest industry sectors in Scotland, food and drink has long been a leader across a raft of disciplines, from advances in new product innovation and packaging to marketing and establishing export markets. It’s a dynamic industry, too, with a £15 billion turnover and more than 119,000 employees.
Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, the industry refuses to shy away from its vision for future growth, and industry leadership organisation Scotland Food & Drink is continuing efforts to work towards its Ambition 2030 vision, where the target is to double the size of the country s food and drink industry to £30 billion turnover by 2030. ....

UK minister insists Scottish seafood export problems are easing

EU red tape that has been creating delays to seafood industry exports from the UK is being cut, the Scottish Seafood Exports Task Force has heard.
The new group – set up in response to seafood export chaos in January – has just held its second meeting, bringing together key industry figures with ministerial and official representatives of both the UK and Scottish governments.
UK Fisheries Minister Victoria Prentis joined the virtual event, hosted by the Scotland Office, and told the task force streamlining of paperwork required by the EU had taken place as a result of industry feedback. ....
