Glasgow Musician Rebecca Vasmant is ready to shine with debut LP


MUSICIAN, producer and DJ Rebecca Vasmant has launched her own label, Rebecca’s Records, while announcing the release of her debut LP.
With Love, From Glasgow is out on June 4. A resident DJ at Sub Club, Rebecca took the lead in curating the first live jazz showcases at the venue, also running a popular record fair and travelling to 22 countries over the last five years to perform.
The new record started before lockdown, but the pandemic pause gave the project the chance to grow into a showcase for local jazz performers to kick off the roster of new releases for Rebecca’s label. ....

Jazz musicians let rip while Russian painter and multi-media artist Maria Rud creates spontaneous images inside Edinburgh’s oldest cathedral in a series of live, online performances. Gayle Ritchie finds out more.
It is billed as the most ambitious, multi-dimensional event ever staged by the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.
Where Rivers Meet, brings together live music, live painting and architecture in the striking setting of Edinburgh’s 12th Century St Giles’ Cathedral.
The project features four outstanding saxophone soloists and the vividly expressive creations of Russian painter and multi-media artist Maria Rud. ....

Talented Lenzie musician has real sax appeal at Celtic connections
Talented saxophonist Matt Carmichael (21) from Lenzie, has released his first single ahead of two performances at this year’s Celtic Connections festival.

Matt, who is currently in his final year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, has chosen his composition Spey as the taster from his debut album, Where Will the River Flow, which comes out on March 12.
The former member of the East Dunbartonshire Schools Jazz Orchestra financed the album partly from the prize money he received as the winner of the prestigious UK-wide Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, which encourages young musicians to develop their careers. ....
