MSPs approve Sturgeon’s new Cabinet despite Lib Dem objection to Robertson

Holyrood has backed the appointment of Nicola Sturgeon’s new Cabinet, despite an attempt by the Liberal Democrats to remove Angus Robertson.
The Scottish Parliament gave its seal of approval to the new Government ministers in a vote on Thursday.
The Lib Dems objected to Mr Robertson being appointed as a minister, saying they do not support the role of Constitution Secretary.
However their motion failed to gain the backing of any other parties and it was defeated in a vote by 70 to four. ....

LibDems fail in bid to stop Angus Robertson's Cabinet appointment

A BID by the LibDems to block Angus Robertson from becoming a member of Nicola Sturgeon s Cabinet failed after Holyrood backed the appointment.
The Scottish parliament gave its seal of approval to the new Scottish Government ministers in a vote on Thursday.
The LibDems objected to Robertson being appointed as a minister, saying they do not support the role of Constitution Secretary.
However their motion failed to gain the backing of any other parties and it was defeated in a vote by 70 to four.
Robertson, a former leader of the SNP s Westminster group, returned to frontline politics when he was appointed as the Scottish Government s Constitution Secretary on Wednesday. ....

Salmond inquiry: Parliament bill for legal advice topped £40,000


New papers released by Holyrood showed that the bill for external legal advice came to £41,633.
The advice was to the Committee on the Scottish Government Handling of Sexual Harassment Complaints, and the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body.
As part of its investigation, MSPs on the committee took evidence from the two female civil servants who made the complaints, as well questioning both Mr Salmond and his successor First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in lengthy evidence sessions.
A majority of MSPs on the committee later concluded that Ms Sturgeon had misled them, claiming there was a “fundamental contradiction” in her evidence on whether she agreed to intervene to help Mr Salmond in the investigation. ....
