FURTHER to the excellent feature about David Baxter and his concerns about the state of the ginnels and snickets in Skipton (Skipton s jungle of weeds, online, July 29) it was a pleasure to have him join the Skipton Step Into Action (SSIA) Tuesday Litter Pick and between us we tackled two of them. We removed all the weeds by hand, we used no weed killer or chemicals to clear them. Entirely leg and spade work. Watch this space for tackling some more, plus anyone is welcome to join the Skipton Step Into Action Tuesday litter pickers who meet up at Morrisons Supermarket car park at 6.30 pm each week. ....
Cllr David Ireton COMMUNITY groups are being invited to apply for grants of up to £1,000 from their Craven district councillors. Craven District Council’s ward member grants scheme is up and running for the sixth year running, with applications from groups and organisations being invited from now until February next year. In the past, grants of between £100 and £1,000 have been handed out to help with a variety of projects including the Wharfedale Wombles litter-picking group, Cononley’s anti-speeding group, and Incredible Edible Skipton. Each of the 30 ward councillors on the council has a maximum of £1,000 to give out to organisations on their patch.Applications can be made throughout the year and will be approved on a first come basis until all the funding is allocated or by March next year. ....
