On July 20, Saratoga Tackle drew 42 boats for its Tuesday evening tournament. Coming in first place was the team of Bill Goodermote and J.R. Goodermote of Scotia with 13.10 pounds, received $855. Second place went to Jeff Russel Jr. and Chris O’Neill, both from Scotia, whose catch weighed in at 11.49 pounds to pay out $555.
Third place was the Burnt Hills team of Tommy Kail and Jason Norton, bringing in 11.42 pounds to take home $295. Kail and Norton also caught the tournament’s lunker bass, a 4.35-pound fish that won them an additional $420. ....

ALBANY - A reading of John Hersey’s article, Hiroshima, will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at Albany s Townsend Park, at Henry Johnson Boulevard and Central Avenue.

Runners support 20th annual Literacy 5K in Rensselaer County

SCHODACK, N.Y. â Runners and walkers showed their support for literacy over the weekend by participating in the 20th annual Literacy 5K.
This event, now a decades-old tradition, is the largest yearly fundraiser for the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, a group that teaches people to read, write and speak English, empowering students to become advocates for themselves, while also educating the larger community about literacy issues.
The 2021 Literacy 5K Run/Walk took place on Sunday, with both virtual and in-person options for participation.

Most registrants chose to complete the race on-site at Schodack Island State Park, where event organizers held a Youth Mile, a guided nature walk and a story walk in addition to the 5K, which went through the parkâs trail system. ....
