The City Council is expected to help provide the Capital Region Land Bank with the financial wherewithal to reimagine a blighted two-family residence that has been vacant for at least four years.

SCHENECTADY Big changes are ahead for a short but strategically placed stretch of South Church Street:
The roughly 675 feet from State Street to Fuller Street will be rebuilt this summer, with utility lines moved underground; new paving, curbs, lighting and sidewalks installed; decorative elements and landscaping added; and a complete overhaul performed on two parking lots along the street.
The Schenectady County Metroplex Development board on Wednesday approved contracts totaling $1.37 million for the work.
Planning meetings are set next week and the goal is to complete the work by late October. ....

ALBANY – Jayme Lahut of Niskayuna has been re-elected the board chairman of the Capital District Transportation Authority.
It is the second one-year term for Lahut, who is executive director of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority. He is the first CDTA board chairman from Schenectady County since 1979. Lahut has been on the board since 2017.
“I’m pleased to continue to serve as chairman of the CDTA board of directors,” he said. “The past year has been filled with challenges to all industries, and I’m so impressed by the way the CDTA workforce has handled the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

SCHENECTADY  Golub Corp. Chairman and former CEO Neil Golub has long been among the Electric City’s biggest boosters.
But on Tuesday he suggested to the Schenectady City Council that the city needs a new nickname   ”Schenectady Metro” in recognition that the accomplishments of the last 30 years make it much more than the city built around the fortunes of General Electric.

SCHENECTADY Upstate Dermatology’s 6,500-square-foot space in downtown Schenectady will soon become a 20,000-square-foot medical complex, according to developers.
The company plans to connect 461 Clinton Street Extension, the 10,000 square-foot building where it currently leases space, with 318 Broadway, a vacant space next door, to create a larger office space. Upstate Dermatology worked on the plan, which will likely cost somewhere between $2 million and $3 million in total, alongside Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority. Metroplex is giving Upstate Dermatology an exemption on the sales tax for the building’s renovation materials, according to Chair Ray Gillen. ....
