Local employers in New Plymouth are on the hunt for potential employees at the Jobs and Training Fair next week. On July 21, more than 15 employers, training providers, and career advisors will be at the St Joseph’s Church Hall from 9.30am to 1pm to meet with members of the public. Hackney and Islington Citizens, a branch of the community organising charity Citizens UK, is tackling the digital divide in the boroughs after receiving £20,000 in cash and used laptops from tech giant Amazon, which has headquarters in Shoreditch. The community group collected 202 laptops and aims to give away pre-paid WiFi dongles to improve internet access for home-schooling children, students struggling to access online learning and elderly isolating people. ....
A DANCE teacher who has inspired generations of youngsters is celebrating 50 years in the business. Angela Kirkham started teaching after he family moved to the area and she was unable to find somewhere to fulfill her love of dance. Her parents moved to Ryedale from Middlesbrough, just after Angela turned 14 due to her dad’s work, which meant she could no longer attend the dance school which had occupied her every spare moment. After attempts to walk the 60 miles back to her old dance school, her parents, in desperation, encouraged Angela to start her own. She said: I eventually opened my very own school in St Joseph’s Church Hall in Pickering with seven pupils attending for one hour on my first day. ....
