Judge denies St. Peter's request to delay Dr. Weiner lawsuit

A district court judge on Wednesday denied a request from St. Peter’s Health to delay a lawsuit filed against the hospital by an oncologist who was fired late last year.
St. Peter s had previously asked the court to delay the lawsuit until Dr. Thomas Weiner had exhausted the in-house remedies detailed in the hospital s bylaws before turning to the courts. The judge said the administrative process would not adequately address the claims being made.
“None of his present claims are subject to the administrative process to which Defendants expect,” Montana First Judicial District Court Judge Michael Menahan wrote.
Weiner sued the hospital Dec. 10, claiming wrongful termination. The lawsuit, as amended, includes a request for an injunction and a request to prohibit St. Peter s from filing an Adverse Action Report to the National Practitioner Data Bank or Montana Board of Medical Examiners. It also asks for an award of damages and court costs to be p ....

St. Peter's Health CEO discusses progress, goals

The chief executive officer of St. Peter’s Health told a group of Helena residents that the hospital’s 100-year mission is to remain independent, that the facility is looking to hire more than 30 providers and that its clinic in Townsend is exceeding expectations.
Wade Johnson was asked Thursday during a virtual meeting of Hometown Helena, a grassroots community group, about how the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package signed by the president would help St. Peter’s.
He said remaining an independent hospital is extremely difficult in today’s health care environment.
“Our board, our providers, our administration is committed to doing so,” he said, adding St. Peter s has partnerships with Bozeman Health and Logan Health in Kalispell and the University of Utah. ....

Lewis and Clark County to get shipment of one-dose COVID vaccine

The Lewis and Clark COVID-19 Vaccine Planning Group is preparing for the arrival of an expected 500 doses of the recently authorized Johnson & Johnson one-dose COVID-19 vaccine this week.

There is no official timeline for the opening of the second vaccination POD, but Lewis and Clark Public Health Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Administrator Eric Merchant, who is also a member of the state s and county s vaccine planning groups, said in an interview it could happen as early as the week of March 7. ....
