Local TD Kathleen Funchion is calling on the Minister for Health to intervene and end maternity restrictions at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny for expectant women and their partners.
Deputy Funchion was speaking in support of expectant mothers and their partners who will be protesting this morning (Thursday) at St Luke’s Hospital campus at the continued ban on partners attending appointments.
“This morning I met with expectant mothers and their partners who are understandably angered and frustrated that their needs have not been given any meaningful consideration during the process of easing public health restrictions, she said. ....

Restrictions on maternity partners at St Luke s Hospital in Kilkenny cannot be eased due to restrictive infrastructural challenges, the Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) says.
The IEHG says that national guidance is being adhered to by all maternity units in the Ireland East Hospital Group, and this includes advice provided by the local hospital infection prevention and control teams specific to the hospital.
With the exception of the National Maternity Hospital, the three Regional Maternity Units in IEHG are part of a general hospital campus and are therefore not standalone maternity hospitals, says the IEHG. ....

The HSE and St Luke s Hospital in Kilkenny have issued an unreserved apology for the failings in the care of a woman who died after giving birth there.
Tracey Campbell Fitzpatrick died after giving birth in St Luke s Hospital on Easter Monday in 2016. The High Court heard this week that she had suffered from massive blood loss after her baby was delivered in the early hours of the morning. ....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group of local doctors took part in a public forum to discuss the importance of the vaccines, especially as it relates to Kansas City-area minority communities, during a panel discussion Thursday in conjunction with Black History Month.
There s a lot of myths and concerns and fears about the vaccine, Dr. Jannette Berkley-Patton with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine said.
To calm those fears, the panel conducted a virtual discussion that tried to debunk myths many people may have over this vaccine. ....
