ST. LOUIS (AP) A crash involving six vehicles Monday in St. Louis has injured eight people, authorities said.
The accident occurred near Interstate 70 in the city s North Riverfront neighborhood, according to a tweet from the St. Louis Fire Department.
Police said at least one person had been taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but they had no other immediate updates, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Dave Modi, who works at the nearby Super 8 motel, said the wreck happened between 11:10 and 11:25 a.m. It appears that a vehicle hit a tractor-trailer and was then rear-ended by a car that caught on fire. Officers pulled some people out of their vehicles, he said. ....

ALTON Brian Fogarty and Ruth Kvistad of the Alton Memorial Hospital EMS team are both heading to medical school later this year.
Kvistad said she hadn’t planned on more school. An EMT with Alton Memorial Hospital’s EMS team since November 2020, she has even loftier goals. Neither of her parents had college degrees, and her high school wasn’t pushing students to apply.
Then, during her senior year, Kvistad was cleaning out fryers as part of a fundraiser for a local organization. One of her co-volunteers accidentally opened the valve at the bottom of a fryer and a mixture of boiling water, soap and remnant oil gushed onto Kvistad’s foot badly burning her. ....

Heartland Hospice's Sarah Schafer Draws on Army, Nurse Training to Care for Terminally Ill


Sarah Schafer rarely lets people see her get emotional. The 39-year-old hospice worker at Heartland Hospice in Washington comforts her patients when they take their final breaths, offering steadfast, stoic support. But Schafer becomes so close to her patients that she often can’t help but join the families in their mourning.
“Every time a patient passes, I’m coping too,” Schafer recently told The Missourian. “I cry with them, and I have cried with the families sometimes. I have always told myself that I’ve gained another angel watching over me. A lot of times as soon as I get in my car I start crying because it’s a peaceful experience.” ....
