Granite Belt residents will need to keep their umbrellas handy and rug up this weekend, according to experts’ latest predictions.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting between 10mm and 20mm on Saturday for Stanthorpe, with the potential for slightly higher totals of 25mm in isolated areas of the Granite Belt.
BOM meteorologist Rosa Hoff said it may have been a drier start to the morning, but there could be plenty more rain on the way.
“We’re having the chance of showers and even rain today, thanks to a trough that is moving through southern parts of Queensland,” Ms Hoff said. ....

“First I hope we have a very enjoyable day, but it is a netball clinic so it should be a learning day for (the kids) as well. We’ll have lots of additional coaches there on top of the Firebirds girls.

Council to push through $3m+ projects under deadline crunch

It’s almost crunch time on some government-funded Warwick developments, with pressure on to both start and finish projects by the end of the financial year.
Several builds were approved by the State Government under the 2020-21 COVID Works for Queensland program, all of which are required to be completed by June 30 this year.
These included the new fitness rooms at WIRAC worth $435,000, improvements to the Warwick pound totalling $100,000, and another $350,000 for septic receival unit construction.
A massive $1.725 million investment in the Stanthorpe dump and another $420,000 for Storm King Dam remediation works were also included in the funding package. ....

Premier visits Warwick, makes major water announcement

A massive $20 million investment announced by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in Warwick this morning is set to kickstart the Southern Downs region’s plans for long-term water security.
The Premier was joined by Minister for Regional Development and Water Glenn Butcher, Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi, and Toowoomba councillor Nancy Sommerfield for the announcement at Warwick’s council chambers on Thursday.
More than $8 million of the drought resilience package will be put towards a detailed design and surveying for the proposed Warwick-Toowoomba pipeline, and another $4.54 million will be used to increase Leslie Dam’s usable water capacity by 1700ML.
The small town of Allora was another focal point of the investment, with $4.6 million in enhanced water treatment and other upgrades to reconnect the township to groundwater and free up an additional 350ML of urban water supply across the region. ....

Six potential long-term solutions to the Mount Morgan water crisis were floated at a public community forum, with some options proving to be more well-received by residents than others.
Rockhampton Regional Council held a community meeting at the School of Arts Hall on April 13 to discuss the current and future water situation for the drought-stricken town, with close to 150 attendees.
This comes after Queensland Health restrictions prevented a meeting going ahead in March.
Fitzroy River Water manager Jason Plumb said water trucks would deliver drinking water to Mount Morgan seven days a week, and while only nine water trucks were delivered the day before, it would be ramped up to the previously announced 20 trucks in the coming days. ....
