Watch SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Launch 60 Starlink Satellites Into Orbit
On 4/29/21 at 3:53 AM EDT
SpaceX has just launched 60 satellites into orbit as the rocket company takes yet another step in building its vast Starlink satellite internet network.
The satellites were packed into the payload section of a Falcon 9 rocket, which lifted off from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 11:44 p.m. EDT Wednesday night.
The full livestream was posted on Twitter, below, by the official SpaceX account.

Just two-and-a-half minutes later the rocket shut off its main engines and the booster stage separated as planned, ready for its autonomous return to Earth. The second stage, carrying the satellites, continued on into space to low Earth orbit. ....

Elon Musk s Starlink project has copped more criticism, this time from a researcher at APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for the Asia-Pacific region.
APNIC s George Michaelson says the project, already under fire for offering low capacity and high prices, risks being loved to death by the wrong sort of users, and may therefore stymie much-needed investment in broadband.
“The bandwidth provided by these LEO satellites is really very good … for now. Starlink, unfortunately, runs the risk of being a victim of its own success,” wrote Michaelson. ....

spacex: India to ask SpaceX to seek permit for offering satellite Internet service

We ll soon meet in your inbox.
Please wait.
DoT has no objections to SpaceX offering the Starlink satellite internet service in India, but it must comply with the laws of the land and seek an appropriate licence and other authorisations before offering the service to Indian consumers, the government official told ET.
SpaceX, which will compete in the global satcom space with Jeff Bezos-led Amazon s Project Kuiper and Bharti-backed OneWeb, has started accepting pre-orders for beta version of its Starlink satellite internet service in India for a fully refundable deposit of $99 (above Rs 7,000).
According to its website, the company expects to start offering internet connectivity to Indian users in 2022 through a maze of satellites it will launch into orbit. ....

SpaceX denied that a Starlink satellite almost collided with a OneWeb satellite in an FCC filing.
OneWeb told the WSJ that Starlink engineers had said they couldn t do anything to avoid a collision.
SpaceX said the companies worked together and OneWeb asked it to turn its collision software off.
Elon Musk s aerospace company SpaceX has denied rival OneWeb s claims that their satellites almost collided earlier this month.
SpaceX said the two companies worked together and agreed in a meeting on Tuesday that there was no close call or near miss, per Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filings from the company, first reported by Ars Technica. ....

SpaceX: Starlink satellite didn't almost collide with rival sat

SpaceX: Starlink satellite didn t almost collide with rival sat
Written by AfterDawn Staff @ 21 Apr 2021 10:48
SpaceX has denied recent reports of a near-miss incident involving one of its Internet-beaming Starlink satellites, and one belonging to rival OneWeb.
The news has reignited concerns about the ambitious plans of SpaceX and others to launch arrays of satellites into low-Earth orbit in order to provide low-latency, high-speech broadband services. Critics warn that launching too many satellites into low Earth orbit increases the risk of collisions that could produce large amounts of dangerous space junk, inhibiting future space operations.
There are also concerns about the presence of satellite constellations in orbit and the effect it will have on ground-based astronomy. ....
