MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Shelby County commissioners asked multiple medical experts if it is safe for teachers and students in the Shelby County Schools system to return to in-person learning.
At this point, the responses of local, state and federal health experts all say the science shows itâs OK to open up school buildings. Nashville Metro schools return to class on Thursday. And that will leave SCS as the lone district in the state still doing 100 percent virtual learning. ....

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) - With the Christmas holiday over, hospitals are bracing for what they expect to be a post-Christmas surge in coronavirus cases.
Despite repeated warnings from health experts, millions of people still decided to travel during the holidays.
As for the roads, AAA estimates holiday travel will be down nearly 30% this year, but they still expect more than 84 million people to travel between Christmas and New Year’s.
“You should be very careful as to the onset of symptoms and frankly should probably be tested several days after that trip,” said Threlkeld. “Three to five [days], somewhere in that range out to seven [days] to see if you possibly could have contracted the infection and might be a risk to someone else, even if you are asymptomatic.” ....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The first shot of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine was administered on Monday to a nurse in Queens, New York as the U.S. surpassed 300,000 virus-related deaths.
“We’re feeling great,” said FedEx Executive Vice-President Richard W. Smith. “Distribution has gone very smoothly this morning. All of us at FedEx are immensely proud to be a part of this historic moment.”
