The Shark Lab has tagged 120 sharks and tracks them from Morro May to the Mexican border. When they pass within 300 yards of the Huntington Beach pier, a signal goes to a tracking buoy sending an alert to lifeguards. “So when a shark swims by, we know which one, where they’ve been, so they can make better decisions on what to do about that,” said Chris Lowe from Shark Lab. ....

The company has already started posting tech support, human resources and other administrative job openings in Tampa. Kirksville close to hiring next chief of police Kirksville officials are moving forward to hire a new police chief within the next few weeks. City Manager Mari Macomber did preliminary Zoom interviews with about 16 candidates over the last few weeks. Now three finalists will soon visit Kirksville for additional interviews. Macomber said she hopes to have someone hired by mid-May. The position is open following the unexpected death of Steve Farnsworth last October. Farnsworth began in that role in 2019 after the retirement of Jim Hughes. Justin Jones, Farnsworth’s deputy chief, has served as the interim chief since Farnsworth’s passing. Macomber said Jones didn’t apply for the police chief position and will remain as the deputy chief once someone is hired. Macomber said the three final candidates are all external people with many years of previous law enforcement experience. ....
City to rename street Steve Farnsworth Drive Austin Miller Steve Farnsworth’s lasting Kirksville legacy will soon be honored in a physical form near the Kirksville school district. The street that runs along the north side of KHS, past the parking lot, water tower, and Spainhower Field before turning to Ray Miller Elementary School, is being renamed Steve Farnsworth Drive. The Kirksville R-III School Board approved the change during its Nov. 11 meeting, though a formal ceremony for the change is still to be determined. “After Steve’s passing, once the dust settled, we were thinking of ways to immortalize Steve,” said Interim Police Chief Justin Jones. “Not only was he a big part of the city and the police department, but he was a big part of the community. He was really sports-oriented. If he wasn’t working here, he was driving a bus for Weber or he was refereeing a football game or running the clock down at Truman.” ....
