Despite an ongoing lawsuit over a bar owner s plans to open during the in-person dining shutdown last May, doors are still open at multiple Shady s sites in central Minnesota.
The Stearns County Board approved Tuesday the liquor license for the upcoming year at Shady s Long Shots in Cold Spring even though the county attorney and sheriff declined to sign the renewal application and Albany City Council approved Wednesday the liquor license renewal for Shady s Hometown Tavern and Event Center. ....

Stearns County Seeking Input on Proposed Feedlot Changes
ST. CLOUD  Stearns County is looking for public input on proposed changes to their feedlot setback requirements.
As part of the update to the county s comprehensive plan, the county is considering a handful of changes. One of the most notable changes would be to reduce the current 700-foot setback between homes and feedlots to 500 feet when the animal units are between 10 and less than 100. Feedlots with animal units of 100 or more would stay at a 700-foot setback.
The Stearns County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on May 18th as part of their regular board meeting. ....

County Commissioners Set Their 2021 Salaries
ST. CLOUD  The Stearns County Board of Commissioners has approved a salary increase for themselves in 2021.
After debating the issue during Tuesday s board meeting, commissioners approved a 3% salary increase for 2021. The move elevates the salary for Stearns County Commissioners to $38,603 per year.
The Stearns County Board does not get paid per diems like some other counties. It s also the first pay raise for commissioners since 2019.
In Benton County, commissioners approved a 2% increase, raising their salaries to $30,765 in 2021.
In Sherburne County, commissioners approved a 3.35% increase which brings their annual salary from $51,978 to $53,720. It s the first salary increase for the board in two years, and like Stearns County, Sherburne County commissioners do not get per diems as part of their compensation. ....
