A section of Stearns School Road in Gurnee, which had been closed for weeks following a culvert collapse, has been repaired earlier than expected, county officials announced.
Stearns School Road, usually one of the busiest roads in the village, was closed from Hutchins Road to North Mill Creek Drive on March 25 when officials discovered the culvert beneath the road was in bad shape. The culvert collapsed days later. ....

Stearns School Road in Gurnee, usually one of the busiest roads in the village, is the focus of two repair projects that will stop traffic.
Lake County transportation workers have begun to fix a portion of the road damaged after a culvert that failed in late March. And the Stearns School Road bridge over I-94 was closed to through traffic on Friday by Illinois State Toll Highway Authority workers as part of the bridge replacement project. ....

The Illinois Tollway has informed the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) that a full closure of the Stearns School Road Bridge is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 15 as part of a project to replace the 70‐year‐old bridge over the Tri‐State Tollway (I‐94).
To safely accommodate construction of a new bridge and to reduce the duration of work, the Stearns School Road Bridge will be closed to traffic for nine months. The full closure and a traffic detour are necessary because the bridge is too narrow to accommodate traffic while safely providing a work zone to complete the removal and reconstruction of the bridge. ....

Stearns School Road between Hunt Club Road and Dilleys Road in Gurnee will be closed for nine months beginning Monday, March 15, to accommodate construction of a new bridge over the Tri-State Tollway (I-94). Access to Gurnee Mills Mall off Stearns School Road will remain open. The 70-year old bridge is being replaced and will be closed to accommodate construction and reduce the work duration. The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, village of Gurnee and Lake County Division of Transportation are partnering in the project. The new bridge will provide for three lanes of traffic and added bicycle and pedestrian access. Traffic will be detoured to Dilleys Road, Grand Avenue (Route 132) and Hunt Club Road. ....

Two 23-year-old men were killed Saturday night when a speeding vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into a guardrail near Lindenhurst, authorities said.
Lake County Sheriff s police said deputies called to the scene along Stearns School Road east of Route 45 at 9:30 p.m. arrived to find a 2009 Audi TTS with what was described as extreme damage.

An investigation determined that a 23-year-old Waukegan man was driving the car westbound on Stearns at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and it hit a guardrail on the north side of the road, authorities said. ....
