Learner drivers got behind the wheel for the first tests since they resumed on Thursday.
More than 450,000 tests were cancelled in Britain due to the coronavirus pandemic, meaning the waiting list to book a lost is around 17 weeks, according to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
The newly passed drivers expressed their relief at avoiding the possibility of having to wait several more months for another opportunity.
Candidates said the backlog has put them under more pressure to pass. ....

Pet owners across the country could soon be required by law to get their cats microchipped.
The government is considering changing the law, with regulations already in place for dog owners, in order to help reunite lost or stolen pets with their families.

An 89-year-old man has raised more than £34,000 for charity by rollerskating laps of the courtyard outside his flat.
Inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore and Marcus Rashford, RAF veteran John Wilcock has got his skates on for the first time in seven decades.
He s aiming to do 90 laps of the courtyard before turning 90.
Initially he hoped to raise £500 for FareShare, a charity which aims to redistribute food to those in need and reduce waste, but has surpassed it by almost 70 times. ....
