Flats and homes planned for former Stratton Education Centre 'too small'

MOST of the flats proposed for the inside of an old school and all of the new homes planned next to it are too small.
That’s the view of Stratton St Margaret Parish Council, which criticised an application to convert the former Stratton Education Centre into seven flats and build 12 houses next to it on Clays Close.
Parish councillors pointed out all of the flats and several of the homes as detailed in the designs have rooms which are below the minimum space standard.
They raised concerns over inadequate parking on the site and worries about congestion on the road. ....

Flats and houses plan for Victorian school building unveiled

Plans for the transformation of a Victorian school into flats and houses have been lodged with Swindon Borough Council.
And if the scheme goes ahead it could could bring in money to help the council’s coffers.
The Swindon Housing Company, a private business wholly-owned by the council has lodged formal proposals to turn the former Stratton Education Centre site in Clays Close into a new small housing estate.
The plans show the red brick Victorian school building would be retained but converted into seven flats.
And 12 houses - all two and three-bedroomed homes arranged in pairs of semi-detached properties or groups of three - would be constructed at the edge of the site facing the roundabout at the junction with St Philips Road and Green Road and running along Clays Close, with their fronts to the road. ....
