Area high school graduates set to walk stage

This time last year, high school seniors in the New Braunfels and Comal independent school districts had little idea what expect from their commencements.
How and when they would happen were among the top queries after COVID-19 canceled ceremonies â scheduled years before for Texas State Universityâs Strahan Arena â and how the pandemic might shape graduations for years to come.
The Classes of 2020 got to experience both virtual and live graduations hosted successfully at high school stadiums that will welcome Classes of 2021 for events Wednesday through Saturday.Â
The weather will cooperate again this year, as after days of rain, clear skies with less humid conditions are forecast for the 2,300 grads set to walk stages and receive diplomas, beginning today with Comal Academyâs 85 seniors at 7 p.m. at Davenport High Schoolâs auditorium. ....

RINGING IN THE CELEBRATION

It’s a celebration of accomplishment.
For students who have reached a level of academic success the Ring Celebration is a milestone. Last weekend students from Texas State University celebrated their achievement christening their class rings in a new fountain with water pumped straight from the San Marcos River.
Hundreds of Bobcats, family and friends gathered marked the Spring event on May 7-8 at the Meadows Center.
The scenic Meadows Center provided a great backdrop for the tradition. The official class ring is reserved exclusively for currently enrolled graduate students, degree-holding alumni and undergraduate students who have completed 75 cumulative credit hours. The Ring Celebration is an event reserved exclusively for participation by Bobcats wearing the official class ring, provided by Balfour. ....

Texas State to host in-person, socially distanced spring 2021 commencement

Texas State University will host in-person, socially distanced commencement ceremonies for spring 2021 degree candidates on May 13 and 14 at Bobcat Stadium.
Alan L. Tinsley, member of the Texas State University System Board of Regents, will be the keynote speaker during the 10 a.m. ceremony on May 14, to be attended by degree candidates from the Department of Biology; Department of Computer Science; Department of Engineering Technology; Department of Physics; Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization; Interdisciplinary Science; Department of Finance and Economics; Department of Marketing; and Graduate College.
Earl Maxwell, CEO of St. David’s Foundation, will be presented with an honorary doctoral degree during the 6 p.m. ceremony on May 13. Robby Maxwell will speak on behalf of his father. ....
