Annual fundraiser honors the late Sam Galloway Jr

The 18th annual Sam Galloway Jr. and Friends Soup Kitchen was held Thursday and honored the legacy of the late Sam Galloway Jr., the Southwest Florida philanthropist and local businessman.
The event raised $1 million in 2020, and all of the money went toward fighting hunger and homelessness right in Lee County. The amount raised for this year’s even was not yet confirmed Thursday.
Galloway died this past March. He was 76 years old.
Galloway was one of the founding members of the group, Community Cooperative, which hosts the annual fundraiser. ....

I don’t know his name, though as of late he’s been dubbed the Scrub-A-Dub Saint, but he takes your money with a smile. He tells you to have an amazing day, and even gives you a little dance and a laugh. It’s just enough to maybe change a bad attitude to good, or a boring day to special. ....

Mobile food pantry to resume for veterans

Monthly mobile food pantries will resume this January, throughout Lee County, as a drive-thru, providing veterans and their families a week’s worth of food.
The first pantry will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the VA Healthcare Center, 2489 Diplomat Parkway E. in Cape Coral.
“Nationwide 25 percent of active military families are getting help from food pantries, and hunger among the 12 million veterans over the age of 60 is sadly skyrocketing,” Community Cooperative CEO Tracey Galloway said in a prepared statement. ....
