4 more arrests in death of 20-year-old Georgia woman

DACULA, Ga. (AP) Four more teenaged girls face felony murder charges in the Valentine’s Day shooting death of a Georgia woman.
Gwinnett Police announced the arrests Friday, news outlets reported. That brings the total number of arrests to five in the death of Faith Burns, 20, of Loganville.
Authorities said the slaying happened just after 1:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day near Dacula. Police found Burns with at least one gunshot wound. She later died at an area hospital.
A 17-year-old girl from Snellville was the first arrested. She surrendered Feb. 16 to police and faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a person under 18. ....

Piedmont to take over Augusta's University Hospital

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) Days after announcing a plan to buy four other hospitals for $950 million, Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare has signed an agreement to take over Augusta’s University Hospital system, pushing deeper into a statewide expansion.
Directors of the three-hospital University system announced Wednesday that they have approved a nonbinding letter of intent. Jim Davis, CEO of the nonprofit University system, says the merger could be completed late this year or early next year. Davis tells WJBF-TV that University is likely to change its name to Piedmont-Augusta.
Hospitals have been merging to seek greater market power in bargaining for reimbursement rates with insurers. University began seeking a partner in 2019, saying remaining independent would have been difficult with payment rates declining and costs rising. Piedmont also offers access to technology and data systems University can’t afford. ....

Some people Snellville are not happy with the school speed zone cameras.
SNELLVILLE, Ga. - Snellville police said they have mailed out more than 30,000 tickets since installing six-speed cameras in school zones.
While some drivers say they are needed, others say it’s all about the money.
Jason Bramlett said opening the mailbox and finding a speeding ticket has become somewhat of a routine.
Every day we’ll come home and we’ll be like, hey, got another one, Bramlett said. It’s a complete and total money grab from the City of Snellville. ....

Piedmont Buying 4 HCA Hospitals In Macon, Cartersville, Snellville

Piedmont Healthcare is adding four HCA hospitals to its network in a deal valued at close to $1 billion.
The purchases from HCA, announced Monday, would make Atlanta-based Piedmont the leading system in Georgia in number of hospitals, at 15. The Emory and Wellstar systems are next, at 11.
The deal had been rumored for several days.
If regulators approve the acquisitions, as expected, the nonprofit Piedmont system will acquire Eastside Medical Center in Snellville; Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside, both in Macon; and Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville.
The targeted closing date is July 31. HCA, a chain based in Tennessee, valued the acquisition price at $950 million. ....
