Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum "Legends" Alpine and Nordic Races scheduled for March

A giant slalom ski race and 5K Nordic sprint to benefit the Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum are scheduled for March 11 and13. The races are open to men and women ages 50+. Divisions are men and women age 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. Winners in each division will receive medals at the post race awards celebrations. A Ski-Meister trophy for a man and woman will be presented to the best overall skier in alpine and Nordic combined.
The fourth annual Legends GS Race is set for Thursday March 11 on the Boris Badenov trail at Mt. Abram in Locke Mills. The two-run giant slalom race begins at 1 pm. The first annual Tom Kendall Nordic Legends 5K begins at 1pm, Saturday March 13 at Black Mountain in Rumford. The course will be set for classic and freestyle skiing. Nordic skiers may ski either discipline or both for the single-run sprint race. ....

“There’s a saying that where three Norwegians get together, they build a ski jump and hold a competition. That pretty much followed through here. They brought their Old World passion for the sport. New England Ski Museum adjusts during pandemic and plans new regional 2022 event


Though the Eastern Slope Brach of the New England Ski Museum is experiencing a descending number of visitors due to the pandemic, the institution is gliding ahead with relatively new exhibits in North Conway, planning a couple of events including one with a Nordic theme and enjoying infrastructure enhancements.
Among the recent additions is a back-country skiing exhibit which includes some local connections like Chris Davenport who grew up skiing in the valley, a refurbished Wildcat bubble gondola — sans cigarette burns and discolored plexiglass — and the ski pole reputedly used April 16, 1939, by Toni Matt during his famous Inferno schuss down the Tuckerman Ravine Headwall. ....

Acoustic folk artist Ryan Montbleau, indie-pop musician Francesca Blanchard, members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and others join Hollister for VT Sounds A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music, broadcast from ZenBarn in Waterbury at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 22.
