J&J vaccine: Black, Latino Indiana advocates fight vaccine mistrust


For months, leaders in Indianapolis Black, Latino and underserved communities have been fighting an existing history of racism, mistrust and issues of lack of representation and language access around the COVID-19 vaccine. 
Community centers, churches, clinics and nonprofits have joined forces to bring the vaccine to Black and Latino neighborhoods.
Bilingual volunteers have helped thousands of Spanish-speaking Hoosiers register to get their shot, and multiple virtual informational panels have been hosted to help debunk myths. 
On Tuesday, federal health officials said they are recommending a pause in the administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine due to six reported cases of a rare blood clot found in women after receiving the one-shot vaccine.  ....

Spanish-language campaign begins on COVID-19 vaccine in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) In Marion County, some organizations say there are many Latinos who are hesitant to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Now they’re taking new steps to help address their concerns.
“Start promoting a Spanish outreach campaign to dismantle any misinformation around the vaccine and to try to encourage more people to take it,” said Mariana Lopez-Owens, La Plaza’s director of development, marketing and communications.
The nonprofit La Plaza says some Latino immigrants won’t get a COVID-19 vaccine because they’re scared of being arrested or deported. Right now, all people regardless of their legal status can get vaccinated once they’re eligible under the local distribution guidelines. ....
