Browsing Is Back At Eugene And Springfield Libraries

As of July 6th, the Springfield Public Library is open five hours a day, six days a week for materials checkout and computer use. Adult Services Librarian Mark Riddle said appointments aren’t necessary.
“We’ve moved some of the materials around, in particular the new books and the holds have now moved to the center of library, he said, but luckily we have a whole batch of new signage and so people can come on in and have an explore and find the materials that they’re looking for.”
 
Riddle said teen activities are a mix of online and in-person and adult activities are still virtual. ....

COVID-19 update: Athletic events bring cases, but not community spread


Lane County Public Health reported 46 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, the second largest daily case increase this month, and 20 more on Tuesday. Two more Lane County residents were killed by the virus over the weekend.
LCPH spokesperson Jason Davis said county staff are attributing some of the new cases to the influx of people and them being tested for athletic events such as the Olympic Trials. 
However, he said that while county epidemiologists are seeing more cases, we re not seeing more spread, meaning that cases from an athlete s entourage aren t leading to more cases in the community. 
LCPH reported Tuesday that 89 people remain infectious. So far this month, this number has been an average of 106. Part of the reason the number of infectious residents is dropping is because of increasing numbers of fully vaccinated residents, up to 194,923 as of Monday. ....
