New CBA Between Springfield Police And City Begins Thursday

A new collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Springfield Police Officers Association begins Thursday.
It was approved by City Council during their meeting Monday.
The agreement begins today and lasts until the end of June in 2024.
In the agreement, the starting pay for a Springfield Police Officer has risen to just over 46 thousand dollars a year up from a little more than 40 thousand.
The agreement is part of efforts to address recruiting and a staffing shortage.

Seniors Rally To Call For Removal Of Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood

    A senior citizen advocacy group in Massachusetts rallied today to amplify their call for the ouster of Springfield’s top cop.
    In front of Springfield City Hall, under a hot midday sun, about 40 people chanted, sang, held signs, and listened to speakers call for the removal of Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.
   The calls for Clapprood’s ouster stem from an online meeting the police commissioner had with members of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council in April to discuss police reform. During the meeting, and in a follow-up letter to the organization, Clapprood was “defensive and dismissive” about allegations of racial bias within the police department, said Mattie Lacewell, the president of the council’s Springfield chapter. ....

Springfield, Illinois – On April 23, 2021, at approximately 6:51 p.m., a witness reported a passenger in a vehicle waving a handgun at the driver, causing them to swerve. A Springfield Police Officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near 9th Street and North Grand Avenue. During a search of the vehicle, Officers located a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun. The passenger was identified as 27 year old Antoine Glass of Chatham. Glass was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and was transported to the Sangamon County Jail.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. A man is in jail after a foot chase that ended in the 2300 block of Olympic St. Friday night.
37-year-old Michael Joseph Uzelac is facing charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Interfering with Police, Theft II and Elude (Felony Warrant).
Uzelac was wanted for stealing motorcycle equipment from a prior case.
He quickly fled the scene on foot.
During the foot chase, police said he either threw or dropped a loaded semi-automatic weapon. ....
