Building vaccine trust in minority communities

Building vaccine trust in minority communities
Skepticism in vaccines dates back decades after controversial tests
and last updated 2021-02-05 16:57:47-05
MICHIGAN — There’s a skepticism of vaccines rooted in history for the black community. After years of being subjected to controversial and often times inhumane medical trials, now, the medical community is combatting a mistrust in vaccines they themselves helped create.
“It took a long time - and with reason - that people come to these conclusions,” said Dr. Walter Brame, a community advocate and former president of the local Urban League chapter. “We hope that the medical community takes a look at itself and understand that it has contributed to this situation.” ....

Mexico, Colombia Launch Consultations on Unlicensed 6 GHz Use

Mexico, Colombia Launch Consultations on Unlicensed 6 GHz Use
Friday, February 05, 2021 | Comments
The telecommunications regulators of Mexico and Colombia launched consultations considering whether to allow unlicensed use in the 6 GHz band.
In Mexico, the frequency range between 5.925 and 7.125 GHz is used for fixed satellite service, fixed service and mobile service. Additionally, in the 6.445 – 6.775 and 6.785 – 7.115 GHz bands of spectrum, there have been concessions granted to radio relay operations used for rail transport communications.
The Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) launched its consultation on the spectrum in November 2020 and it ended in January 2019. The purpose of the consultation was to gather public feedback on the best way to use and allocate the 6 GHz spectrum in the band. Find more information on Mexico’s consultation here. ....

During a Jan. 26 emergency Zoom meeting, which quickly reached its 1,000-participant capacity, Southern President David Smith shared administration’s concerns that in-person classes may be threatened if students and employees fail to follow COVID-19 protocols.
“Yesterday morning, it became clear to me that our goal of finishing this semester together in-person is in serious jeopardy,” Smith said to the audience of both students and employees. “… Immediate action is absolutely necessary. Whether or not we reach this goal of staying on campus will depend on each of you, students and employees of the university.”  ....

CTA urges FCC to continue 6GHz rollout

| 05 February 2021
With the liberation of the 6GHz spectrum potentially providing a boom for the CE industry, the US Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has submitted a letter to comms regulator Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ignore calls to halt the equipment certification process for 6GHz unlicensed devices.
In April 2020 US telecoms and broadcast regulator the FCC circulated draft rules permitting unlicensed devices to operate in the 6GHz band. Chairman Ajit Pai proposed to make 1,200MHz of spectrum available for use for unlicensed devices, which would share the spectrum with incumbent licensed services under rules crafted to protect the latter and to support both wireless operation types. ....
