South Korea kickstarts 6G plans

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT this week established a 6G R&D implementation plan that calls for investing around $194 million by 2025 in six focus areas.
The plan targets government investment totaling KRW 17.9 billion ($15.78 million) in 2021 across 10 strategic technologies, including Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, with KRW 220 billion within four years.
The technologies correlate with the focus areas, including performance, Terahertz bands, space communications, ultra-precision; artificial intelligence; and reliability.
Specifically MSIT outlined strategic technologies that include Tbps-capable wireless and optical communication for maximum 1 Tbps speeds; Terahertz RF components and spectrum model for bands between 100-300 GHz; space mobile and satellite communications to help ....

Seven appoints new Head of Regulatory & Government Affairs

Seven has appointed Clare Gill as Head of Regulatory and Government Affairs, to replace Justine McCarthy, who is moving to a new role as Senior Adviser to Paul Fletcher MP.
She was previously Group Director, Regulatory Affairs and Spectrum Strategy, at Nine and Head of Government and Corporate Affairs at SingTel Optus.
At Seven she will be responsible for Government and regulatory affairs, corporate affairs, industry group representation, external stakeholder management and strategic input to business strategy.
CEO James Warburton said: “Justine McCarthy has been a highly valued member of the Seven West Media team since 2012 and has made an important contribution across many parts of our business. We are sad to lose her, and she leaves with our thanks and very best wishes for the future. ....

Government unveils Rolling Spectrum Strategy 2020-23
Master plan provides roadmap for spectrum allocation, policy reviews
The government on Wednesday unveiled the Rolling Spectrum Strategy 2020-2023 in order to assist commercial telecom operators in network planning and investments owing to a massive growth in data utilisation.
According to a report titled “Rolling Spectrum Strategy 2020-2023”, released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the spectrum master plan provides a future roadmap for spectrum allocation as well as spectrum-related policy reviews that are anticipated to take place between 2020 and 2023.
The report, which outlines salient features of the strategy, will assist the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, PTA and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) in formulating the three-year Rolling Spectrum Strategy - which was a key area highlighted in the Telecommunication Policy 2015.
