Greek studies continue at La Trobe University for now, but a review will take place in March 2023

Neos Kosmos are aware, the deliberations during November and December 2020 led to La Trobe University’s decision to continue its Greek Studies program.
A review will be undertaken in March 2023. La Trobe recently established a Steering Committee to assist with two main objectives: (1) increasing student enrolments; and (2) fundraising.
In order to assist in reaching the total of $172,000 ($64,000 annually) that was pledged to cover the costs of the program over this three year period – costs that are not covered by current student numbers – the university set up a donation portal: https://www.latrobe.edu.au/giving/support-greek-language. ....

Greek Community of Melbourne Board welcome new Greek Consul General to Victoria

On 10 February members of the Board of the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) had the opportunity to meet new Greek Consul General Emmanuel Kakavelakis, hosting him at the Greek Centre.
Along with a tour of the Greek Centre, GCM Board members briefed the new Consul on the operations of the organisation. A particular focus was given to the upcoming events scheduled for the 1821 anniversary celebrations and the operation of the GCM’s education program.
Committee co-chairs Professor Marinis Pirpiris and Michael Karamitos outlined the GCM’s 200th anniversary commemorative program for the Consul. The Organising Committee in charge of curating the GCM’s commemorative program have developed a diverse, COVID safe year long celebration. ....
