City of Spokane cancels fireworks shows due to fire danger

SPOKANE, Wash. Fourth of July fireworks shows at Dwight Merkel, Ferris High School, Avista Stadium and Plante’s Ferry have been cancelled due to fire danger.
The City of Spokane announced the decision Thursday, and said a separate fireworks show will be held at a later date.
“Safety is always at the forefront, and in consultation with our regional public safety officials, we’re looking forward to bringing the community a fireworks celebration when conditions are more favorable,” said Parks & Rec director Garrett Jones.
Fire officials warn that drought, unseasonably dry conditions and record-breaking heat are recipes for disastrous fires, and any fireworks accidents could quickly spiral into wildfires that will be extremely difficult to control. ....

City of Spokane to put on drive-in firework shows on New Years Eve

Parking lots will open to cars at 7:30 p.m., Dickson said. After the shows, security will escort cars from the lots and close them.
The shows will follow Phase 2 guidelines for drive-in movie theaters in coordination with the Governor s Office and Spokane Regional Health District, Dickson said.
Spokane Indians Baseball Club, City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, Spokane County Parks, Recreation & Golf, and Spokane Public Schools are are working with several underwriters to make the shows happen, the city said.
The shows will be underwritten by Avista, Edward Jones Investments, Great Clips, Gus Johnson Ford, MutiCare, No-Li, Numerica Credit Union, R nR RV Dealers, STCU and Wake Up Call Coffee. ....
