Sewage concerns in downtown Kingston community

Citizens living close to Smith Lane and Sutton Street in downtown Kingston are calling on the authorities to visit the area to address a sewage issue that is threatening to create health problems.
“Over the last three days we have seen large volumes of sewage seeping from under the roadway and this we believe is a major health issue,” said Rohan White , who was seen travelling through the area on Monday.
“It is a big problem, especially for the children who are back at school. Classes have restarted and students have to be jumping over this raw sewage to come to school. That is not right,” said another resident who identified himself only as ‘Paul’. ....

29-year-old man shot in leg in Syracuse

Syracuse, N.Y. ― A 29-year-old man was shot Friday afternoon near East Brighton Street in Syracuse, according to Syracuse police.
Police were called at 1:59 p.m. to a report of shots being fired in the 100 block of Smith Lane, Syracuse police said in a news release. The shooting happened near Vincent Apartments, 105 Smith Lane.
A short time later, the man was dropped off at Upstate University Hospital, police said. He had been shot in the leg.
The man is expected to survive, police said.
Officers on Smith Lane found evidence of shots being fired and multiple casings were located. ....

Before the storm…
The days leading up to April 27th were extremely busy and also a time filled with an unusual energy that accompanies potential high end severe weather days. I recall that we were at an Easter Egg Hunt the prior Saturday, April 23rd (our daughter was 9 then) when several parents came up to ask me about the weather for the following week. So word was already getting out. In fact, looking back at the forecast discussion and outlooks we were already highlighting significant impact weather for the coming Wednesday.
By Monday, briefings were in full swing and the media was requesting interviews at a rather rapid pace. One interview in particular struck me, especially in hindsight. A reporter asked the Warning Coordination Meteorologist David Nadler on April 26th – the day before – “is this going to be as bad as the April 3rd, 1974 tornado outbreak?” At first, I thought this was a crazy question but the more I thought about it and the more I looked at ....
