Smithville Western Care Center observes early Memorial Day

WAYNE TWP. The residents at Smithville Western Care Center honored America s fallen servicemen and women on Thursday with an early Memorial Day service.
The Wooster American Legion Post 68 presented the colors and played taps while Sgt. Cory Daughtery with the U.S. Marines delivered a short prayer for the residents gathered outside the Sprenger Health Care facility. At least 20 residents walked or were wheeled out to sit in the sun or under the overhang to observe.
I liked it. It was well worth coming out to see, said Gary Sloan, who served in the U.S Marine Corps from 1970 to 1972. Sloan helped start the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in Wooster and organized the event for eight years before moving into the care center for health issues. ....

FBI, Wayne County authorities in standoff with child porn suspect

WAYNE TWP. Come out with your hands up.
Law enforcement and agents with the FBI used a bullhorn to plead with a suspect to give himself up late into the evening Monday.
As of 10 p.m., authorities were still at the scene of a standoff with a man holed up in house on East Smithville Western Road.
The man, identified as Dennis Horn, 69, who lives at the house, is wanted on child pornography charges.
Wooster police, the FBI and the Wayne County Sheriff s Office had the house surrounded since early afternoon trying to convince Horn to surrender peacefully.
A nearby neighbor reported hearing authorities trying to communicate with Horn. The neighbor said the usually well-traveled street in rural Wayne Township was eerily quiet since the standoff began. ....
