Government data shows a 2.7-37 per cent increase within a month’s time
Cooking a daily meal has got expensive as prices of onion, tomato, pulses and mustard oil seeing a spike. Government data show prices of basic cooking items have registered a2.7-37 per cent rise in a month’s time.
A combination of factors such as surge in diesel prices and higher temperature affecting crops is likely to have pushed up inflation. The government will release retail inflation data for February on March 12. What is interesting is that the rate of retail inflation for January was 4.06 per cent while food inflation was at 1.89 per cent, mainly on account of lower vegetable prices. ....

The Indian economy is projected to contract by 8 per cent this fiscal a lot worse than the minus 7.7 per cent that the National Statistical Office (NSO) had forecast in its first advance estimate of national income released on January 7.
Real GDP growth in 2019-20 was 4 per cent.

Most of us awaited Indias Union Budget 2021-22 for its fiscal policy strategy to support growth, as the economy slowly emerges from the pandemic. Given previous episodes of shortfalls in realized receipts and rising off-budget expenditure, one was also ready to calculate more likely receipts and the true fiscal deficit.
