Squire Parsons, 72, was born in 1948 in Newton, W. Va., and was introduced to music by his grandfather, Will, and father, Squire, Sr., a choir director, who both taught him to sing using shaped noted.
In 1970 Parsons earned a B. S. degree in music from W.V.U. Technology Institute, taught school for several years, and served as music director at various churches. During this era he wrote his signature song, “Sweet Beulah Land,” which won The Singing News Fan Award for song of the year in 1981.
He joined the Kingsmen Quartet as a baritone it 1975 and stayed with them for four years before starting a solo career. Parsons was ordained as a minister at Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville in 1975 as well. He appeared with the Rev. Billy Graham in the Little Rock Crusade, has performed on the Gaither Homecoming Choir series, and currently lives in Leicester, with his wife Linda. Blalock remembered for strong work ethic, faith

SEVIERVILLE â Wayne Blalock, owner of Wayne Blalockâs Home Center, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021.
Blalock and his wife, Mary Lou, opened the store in November 1981, and it has always been a family business. His three children, Sherry Stiles, Mira Blalock and Michael Blalock, will continue to run the store moving forward.
When the Home Center opened, the Blalocks were the only employees.
âHe said microwaves and kerosene heaters are what got him though that first winter,â Mira Blalock said. âHe would work the floor during the day, close at 6 and him and papaw would go deliver at night.â
In the decades since, Wayne Blalock built a trusted business and is remembered for his willingness to help others whenever possible. His children said he often extended credit to people just starting out who werenât able to get credit at other places, because he remembered what it was like to work hard without much in the early days. ....
