“4-H-Room to Grow,” was the theme for National 4-H Week to be observed by nearly 900 Noble County members from Oct. 3-9, 1976. Alan Ader, Extension youth agent, said there would be no formal celebration of the observance in Noble County, but each of the 30 4-H clubs in the county would continue with their general activities. Several townships were going to be conducting their 4-H achievement programs during the week.
Angela Lortie, 17, was one of some 22 youths representing Indiana as delegates to the 22nd Annual National 4-H Dairy Conference at Madison, Wisconsin. Angela was a senior at Central Noble High School and had completed eight years in the 4-H dairy project. ....

Jolene Ray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ray of Lignoier has been selected as representative to Girls State this summer. Ray is a junior at West Noble High School. Vicki Gerke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gerke of Ligonier as been selected as alternate to Girls State.
A Central Noble High School teacher has been appointed the field representative for the Miss Northeast Indiana Scholarship Pageant Association. Mrs. Carole Wolfe, who resides in Wolf Lake, said, “I am delighted to be associated with this dedicated group of people who are bringing outstanding scholarship opportunities to deserving girls of Noble County.” ....

Project to install historic marker in Garrett wrapping up


GARRETT — DeKalb County is poised to receive its fifth official state historic marker approved by the Indiana Historical Bureau — honoring film star John Bowersox, who went by the stage name of John Bowers.
DeKalb County Historian John Bry has made it his mission to obtain more historic markers for the county during his tenure by applying to the state agency that reviews and approves topics of significance from Indiana history.
The historic marker honoring the life and work of Bowersox will be placed in Garrett. It originally was to be completed in 2020 but was suspended due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Bry now is seeking to wrap up the project. ....

Springville trio signs Thursday

SPRINGVILLE Springville High School recognized three student-athletes Thursday afternoon during a signing ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.
Those signees include two members of the Tigers baseball team and a senior on the SHS football team. Several family members and many friends were on hand to celebrate the decisions made by wide receiver Gage Frederick, shortstop Trey Windle and catcher Parker Wells.
All three are members of the Springville graduating class of 2021.
Head baseball coach Jonathan Ford took time to recognize his two signees, both of which played on the Tigers’ 2019 Class 5A state championship team. Wells, a Bevill State Community College signee, is expected to serve as a catcher and leadoff hitter for Ford this season. ....
