HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Alabama is starting to see a slight decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations.
It’s the first sign of relief for health care workers as post-holiday surges crippled hospitals across the state.
Our Kate Smith spoke with the President and CEO of the Alabama Hospital Association for what to watch for in the days ahead.
“We are looking at 30% plus declines in hospitalization,” said Dr. Don Williamson. “We are likewise looking at 40% decline in daily new cases.” ....

Trump named Capitol riot lawyer to federal board — as one of his final acts

An Alabama attorney who now represents the family of Kevin Greeson, one of the rioters killed at the Capitol on Jan. 6, was appointed to a prominent agricultural board by former President Trump two days before he left office. The lawyer is also close friends with Rep. Mo Brooks, an Alabama Republican whose role in the events surrounding the riots has come under increasing scrutiny, and who personally announced the last-minute appointment.
Mark McDaniel, a politically connected trial lawyer from Huntsville, exceeded the legal limit in campaign contributions to Brooks in this election cycle, according to a notice the Federal Election Commission sent the campaign on Monday. McDaniel s financial support for Brooks federal efforts traces back to 2009. In December, he publicly defended Brooks right to challenge the election results. ....

HUNTSVILLE, TX â Three correctional officers were injured while trying to subdue an inmate early Monday morning.
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on January 25 at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, 46-year-old inmate Henry Brown refused a random routine pat down search in the Ellis Unit main hall. A use-of-force incident ensued to subdue Brown. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The CEO and President of the Rocket City Trash Pandas went before Madisonâs City Council on Monday asking for answers.
He wanted to talk about how the Trash Pandas did in 2020, but also to ask city leaders for help.
Rocket City Trash Pandas President Ralph Nelson said he just wants an answer on when the I-565 ramp by Toyota Field will be done. Nelson said he was originally told the I-565 ramp would be open in August, but as of Monday, it remains closed. ....
