HANNIBAL â The Hannibal City Council gave first reading Tuesday night to a bill that would officially create a zoning district that was thought to already exist. The city of Hannibal has for years included P-1 zoning on its maps. However, it was recently discovered that there is no actual zoning associated with P-1 Parks and Recreation description. According to Edie Graupman, management assistant in the department of public works the city would like to correct the oversight. âThis new zoning district, known as P-1 Parks and Recreation, will be adopted to provide for public park facilities and open space to enhance and preserve the cityâs recreational, scenic, cultural and historic sites, and areas of public enjoyment,â wrote Graupman in a memo to the council. ....

HANNIBAL â Several months after they were planted adjacent to South Main Street, a time and date for the formal dedication of a grove of Bald Cypress has been scheduled. During Wednesday morningâs meeting of the Hannibal Tree Board, chairwoman Kristy Trevathan announced that the dedication will commence at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at the grove which is located on flood buyout property just south of Bear Creek and east of South Main Street. Among the dignitaries who is slated to be in attendance is Mayor James Hark. Among the honored guests will be Ed Tamerius, for whom the grove is being dedicated, and members of his family. ....
HANNIBAL â Students from Holy Family Catholic School and Stowell Elementary School teamed up on Friday to help plant a swamp white oak tree with representatives from the Hannibal Tree Board, Hannibal Parks and Recreation and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Hannibal Tree Board President Kristy Trevathan said children have traditionally planted trees in Hannibal to celebrate National Arbor Day, including in Central Park and on school campuses in past years. The swamp white oak tree joins 11 other trees on the riverfront â seven river birches and four sycamores â which are also known for their ability to âget their feet wetâ in the event of flooding. ....
