Happy Memorial Day to everyone. As a reminder, Hamblen County Schools will be closed tomorrow to honor the fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country.

Through the easy and the hard, all of those late nights studying and stressing over tests, and all that time you spent bettering yourself, you have made it. Congratulations to six of West’s track athletes who competed at state level competition in Murfreesboro last week. Emma Gives competed in shot put while Kasey Webb threw discus. Bradley, Hamilton, Sequatchie Among 21 School Districts Who Win Grants For Innovative High School Models

Bradley, Hamilton and Sequatchie are among 21 school districts that have been awarded grants for the Innovative High School Models program, as announced today by the The Tennessee Department of Education. The grants are intended to foster local community partnerships that boost student readiness and prepare high schoolers for jobs and careers in their local communities. 
 
The goal of the Innovative High School Models program is to encourage strong, strategic and innovative partnerships between Tennessee public school districts, postsecondary education institutions and local employers to reimagine how to prepare students for success after high school, officials said. ....

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn Hamblen County Schools is considering not having a virtual option the next school year.
Superintendent Jeff Perry said that he has been talking to teachers and administrators about the issue. He said he plans to bring a decision to the Board of Education next Tuesday.
With vaccines now available and the number of COVID-19 cases decreasing in the county, he said virtual lessons may not be needed as the 2021-2022 school year starts. However, he also said that the district will be flexible as the situation changes. ....

Tennessee gets $6.9 million in STEM education grants

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Tennessee officials say they have landed $6.9 million in grants to aid in computer science and STEM education.
The state Department of Education says the money includes a $4 million Education Innovation and Research early phase grant and a $2.9 million Out-of-School Time Career Pathway Program grant. 
The $4 million grant will help expand STEM and computer science education in 20 Tennessee high schools, including with work-based learning opportunities to earn postsecondary credits. 
A competitive grant process to pick the schools will launch this summer. 
The $2.9 million grant will expand computer science and STEM education in five rural school districts. ....
