Sydneysiders looking to break up the day during lockdown with a spot of Devonshire tea can now have fresh scones, jam and cream delivered to their door courtesy of Petersham s Sunday Baker cafe.
When the Sydney-wide lockdown was announced on June 26, I just went and sat in the car and cried for a while, says Jacqueline Highfield, who runs The Sunday Baker with her twin daughters Isabella and Adelaide.
Afterwards, I went back into the store and said to Isabella and right – we re going to push the scones on Instagram . They re nice and comforting and we can bake to order at an affordable price point. You don t know what people s financial circumstances are going to be like during lockdown. ....

NSW tightens Greater Sydney lockdown restrictions as state records 111 local COVID-19 cases and another death

New South Wales has recorded 111 new local coronavirus cases and another death, prompting the premier to announce tougher restrictions for Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour.
Of the new cases, 29 were infectious in the community.
59 cases are linked to a known contact and 47 are household contacts. Over 81,000 tests were processed yesterday.
The health department confirmed the death of a man in his late-80s in South-Eastern Sydney.

Covid-19 Australia: Sydney records another 97 cases overnight after crisis meeting over lockdown


Sydney s exposure sites surged past 400 as New South Wales recorded 97 new Covid cases on Friday.  
Premier Gladys Berejiklian held crisis talks about tightening Sydney s lockdown restrictions after 29 of those cases were out in the community for the entire time while infectious.
NSW Health said 49 of the infections are household contacts and 14 are close contacts. Sixty-seven (69 per cent) of the new cases were found in south-west Sydney.
Health officials also found 14 cases of Covid-19 in south-east Sydney in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday night and nine in the city s west. 
There are now 18 patients suffering from the virus in intensive care wards across NSW and five of them are on ventilators. ....

Chart shows Sydney's Covid outbreak will NOT be as bad as Melbourne

A revealing graph shows how Sydney went into Covid-19 lockdown much earlier in its current outbreak than Melbourne did during its horror second wave last year.
The eastern suburbs of Australia s biggest city were locked down on the ninth day of the outbreak on June 26 when there were just 64 cases. The lockdown was extended to the whole city just two days later.
In contrast, Melbourne locked down its 10 worst-affected postcodes on day 35 of last year s outbreak on July 1, when there were already 446 cases in the community.
