A 20ft-wide ice pancake was discovered by a Halkirk man surveying River Thurso that formed just in time for Pancake Day last week.
The monster circle of ice was seen and photographed by Jamie Mccarthy just above the Aimster pool on River Thurso on Sunday, February 14.

Timber lorries are causing concern for a Caithness woman who says she has endured years of disruption from the vehicles thundering past her house.
Barbara MacKay, who has lived at Westerdale for 15 years, claimed pictures had even been knocked off her walls when the trucks travel past.
And she said it made using the single-track road south of Halkirk a nerve-racking experience. ....

Wintry weather conditions at the weekend failed to stop nearly 900 people turn up for their Covid-19 vaccination at the latest clinic held at Thurso High School.
A huge team of NHS staff, volunteers and employees from the Highland Council road team helped make Saturday s clinic for over 65s and those in the 16-64 at risk group run like a military operation. ....
