Looking Back in Lemoore

The dead weeds were covered with red and white chalk outlines of a basketball court, restrooms, and locker facilities as about 300 students, staff, and community leaders met in a field west of the Kings Christian School’s administration building to break ground on a dream. A dream that has been part of their lives for the past 19 years. “Today we see the start of our dream becoming reality,” said KCS board member and principal , Ernie Drewry. “Today we break ground on a new gym and performing arts building.” Plans for the metal building call for the shell to be up by fall with the rest of the building completed as soon as possible. ....

Hanford City Council to reject Mata's claim | News

HANFORD — The Hanford City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday and is set to reject a claim that Community Development Director Darlene Mata made against the city.
Mata was seeking a settlement payment of $1.25 million from the city, as well as conflicts of interest and council member roles/responsibilities training for all council members, after alleging former council member Art Brieno subjected her to a hostile work environment and unlawful workplace conduct, including gender harassment.
Brieno resigned from his position on the council during a Jan. 26 closed session meeting about the claim.
According to the agenda, city staff recommends council reject Mata’s claim and direct the City Attorney s office and staff to send a notice of rejection of the claim. ....

Hanford hopes to fill vacant council seat ASAP

Mario Cifuentez
City of Hanford
“Our plan is to present council with some options as soon as possible,” City Manager Mario Cifuentez said.
The city essentially has two options: council can appoint a new member, or a special election can be held so voters in the district could choose a representative.
Cifuentez said both options will be presented to council, hopefully by its regularly-scheduled meeting on Feb. 16, for discussion and a decision.
The council can function for the time being as a body with only four members, but it could make decision-making a little more complicated or difficult. Cifuentez said if any vote came down to a tie, it ultimately would not pass without a majority vote. ....

Life Again?: The top 10 stories of 2020 [The Hanford Sentinel, Calif.]
Dec. 21 HANFORD 2020. The year that absolutely no one will forget. Littered with multiple divisive issues, none bigger than COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement, the year had multiple memorable moments in Kings County.
After hours of combing through hundreds of stories I wrote, here are my top 10 of 2020.
1. Hundreds attend Black Lives Matter protest at Hanford Civic Auditorium
HANFORD With Hanford being a staunch and overtly conservative area, organizers for the Black Lives Matter protest in June were hoping for 50 people to show up. Instead, what transpired was a sea of support at the Hanford Civic Auditorium with more than 500 people standing in solidarity for one cause. ....
