Mikayla Miller's mother describes life with her daughter during vigil


In a vigil to honor her short life, Mikayla Miller’s mother told the many gathered in Hopkinton Thursday night about her daughter’s love of making tea, and how Mikayla had promised that someday, she would let her mom live in her pool house.
Through tears, Calvina Strothers described how her daughter was “funny, loving, caring, and loved me to death.”
Miller, 16, was found dead in a wooded area near the apartment complex where she lived on the morning of April 18. The cause and many of the circumstances surrounding her death have not been released. Hours earlier, Miller had been in a physical altercation with a group of teenagers. Authorities say the teenagers involved in the altercation did not go to the area where Miller’s body was found. ....

DA: Mikayla Miller death investigation could take months to complete


Family, friends, neighbors, and activists crowded Hopkinton Thursday afternoon to remember and to push for answers about the death of 16-year-old Mikayla Miller, but officials say completing their investigation could take months.
Speaking before the Hopkinton School Committee later Thursday, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan was asked by a committee member about the timeline for authorities to finish the probe, specifically whether, as the school official read, three months is a fair expectation.
“Three months is fairly quick actually, unfortunately,” Ryan said. “We have made some efforts to, obviously, given the public interest around this, to try to expedite the process. And of course you know, that’s always something that you do that at the expense of some other family has been waiting.” ....

HOPKINTON (CBS) – A large crowd gathered in Hopkinton Thursday afternoon for a vigil for 16-year-old Mikayla Miller, as the demand intensifies for an independent investigation into her death.
Violence in Boston’s Monica Cannon-Grant and former Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson led the vigil. They, along with Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, have called for an independent investigation into Miller’s death.
Calvina Strothers, Mikayla’s mother remembered her daughter as a bright and loving girl who loved the ocean, camping and making her tea. ....
